SFO vola con United Airlines e il 787

In questa ottica, l’apertura da parte di United Airlines di un collegamento diretto fra San Francisco e Tel Aviv è tutt’altro che sorprendente: raccogliendo l’invito del sito sfotlv.org, promotore di una petizione con 8.586 firmatari, United Airlines ha inaugurato la rotta a fine marzo 2016 con tre voli a settimana. Già a metà ottobre il collegamento è diventato giornaliero, operato da 787-8 con 36 posti in BusinessFirst, 70 in Economy Plus, 113 in classe turistica.

Ho avuto modo di provare personalmente i voli United Airlines 954 e 955 in Economy Plus per un breve viaggio di lavoro a Tel Aviv a inizio novembre. Questa mia prima esperienza sul Dreamliner è stata ampiamente positiva: mi ha colto decisamente di sorpresa la comodità della poltrona – ergonomicamente perfetta nonostante i soli 17,3 pollici di larghezza; sia l’imbottitura che il supporto lombo-dorsale si sono rivelati eccellenti per questi voli lunghi circa 14 ore. La pressurizzazione e la (relativa) umidità della cabina del 787 – o forse un utilissimo effetto placebo – hanno contribuito a farmi arrivare a destinazione piuttosto riposato.

Il volo per Tel Aviv appartiene a una serie di nuovi collegamenti non-stop inaugurati da United Airlines dal proprio hub di San Francisco: fra il 2014 e il 2016 il vettore ha aperto anche Chengdu, Osaka, Auckland, Singapore, Xi’an e Hangzhou – tutte con 787. Per gli abitanti della Silicon Valley il Dreamliner ha mantenuto la promessa di aumentare il numero di destinazioni servite senza scalo. Per gli addetti del settore tech, il diretto SFO-TLV corona il gemellaggio informale tra le due valli del silicone.
