La compagnia colombiana Avianca, con base a Bogotà, è alla ricerca di un partner che possa supportare la crescita futura, che possa dare una sistemata ai conti della compagnia aerea e che possa essere inclusa nel piano d’espansione. Attualmente la compagnia aerea colombiana ha una flotta di 154 aerei, serve 81 destinazioni e opera ogni giorno 751 voli.
Secondo il New York Times, al vaglio del board di Avianca Holdings, ci sono 3 proposte: Copa Airlines, una di Delta Airlines ed infine una di United Airlines.
La compagnia panamense offre una fusione con Avianca che viene valutata 2 miliardi di dollari. United invece offre un prestito di 500 milioni di dollari mentre Delta ha presentato un’offerta più complicata valutando Avianca in totale 1.9 miliardi di dollari. Un miliardo di dollari andrebbero a coprire l’acquisto della maggior parte delle azioni della holding mentre il resto andrebbe alla compagnia aerea.
La holding che controlla Avianca ha molteplici interessi nel mondo dell’aviazione in diversi paesi del Sud America e le due compagnie americane sono molto interessate a questa operazione in quanto consentirebbe loro di espandersi in un mercato poco presidiato.
