Chicago, USA – Lo scorso luglio, al Farnborough International Airshow, Boeing aveva annunciato di voler lanciare un ulteriore stretch del 737 MAX per far fronte ai risultati commerciali deludenti della variante -9. Secondo Aviation Week e Air Transport World, Boeing avrebbe finalizzato le specifiche del futuro 737-10X.
Rispetto alla variante -9, la fusoliera della -10 sarebbe più lunga di circa m1,67, per una capacità nominale di 230 passeggeri in un’unica classe di servizio, e di 189 in una configurazione tipica a due classi. Lo stretch relativemente modesto consentirebbe a Boeing di tenere bassi i costi di sviluppo e di avere l’aereo pronto alla consegna entro il 2020: il 737-10 MAX avrebbe gli stessi motori e la stessa struttura alare del fratello minore, ma con un carrello principale modificato per gestire la fusoliera più lunga durante la rotazione del velivolo. È verosimile che questi sviluppi intacchino l’autonomia della variante -10 rispetto a quelle più piccole, ma non vi sono ancora notizie al riguardo.
Boeing ha chiuso il 2016 con 668 ordini (al netto delle cancellazioni) ricevuti nel corso dell’anno, un totale inferiore all’obiettivo (748) fissato dal costruttore all’inizio dell’anno: la delusione è imputabile in buona parte alle difficoltà commerciali del 777 e al generale rallentamento delle commesse in ambito civile. Il mese scorso Boeing aveva annunciato la riduzione del rateo di produzione del 777; è altresì verosimile che l’azienda debba rinunciare all’aumento (da 12 a 14 al mese) del rateo di produzione del 787 che era stato precedentemente valutato per la fine del decennio.
