Chicago, USA – Boeing ha annunciato ieri il taglio del rateo di produzione del 777 da 8,3 a 5 esemplari al mese, ovvero da 100 a 60 aerei all’anno – una riduzione pari al 40%.
La decisione di Boeing non è una sorpresa: da almeno due anni il colosso americano ha avuto difficoltà a piazzare sul mercato le versioni attuali dell’aereo. Il mercato del 777-300ER è complicato sia dall’arrivo dei nuovi 777-9 (a partire dal 2020) e A350-1000 (2017), sia dall’imminente disponibilità di decine di esemplari usati attualmente in servizio con Emirates. La versione cargo, il 777F, risente delle difficoltà del settore, da tempo in crisi da sovracapacità.
I tentativi di Boeing di evitare il taglio della produzione (e il contestuale aumento dei costi) erano culminati lo scorso anno nella conversione da parte di United Airlines di dieci ordini di 787-9 in 777-300ER, il primo dei quali dovrebbe essere consegnato entro la fine di dicembre. Nemmeno gli ordini recenti di Qatar Airways e Iran Air sono stati sufficienti a colmare gli slot di produzione liberi fra il 2017 e il 2020: includendo la commessa del vettore persiano, la macchina ha realizzato solo 38 ordini nel 2016. Allo stato attuale, rimangono circa 135 ordini inevasi per il 777.
