"United received a Boeing 787-8 and five Boeing 737-900ERs in June. So far this year, UA has taken delivery of 23 mainline airplanes, including three 787-8s and updating fleet with modern, fuel-efficient airplanes.
This year, UA plans to take delivery of 29 737-900ERs and six 787s, including two of the 787-9s.

UA is the only North American airline to fly the 787, which burns up to 20 percent less fuel per seat than a similarly sized plane. United is also the North American launch customer for the 787-9, which is a stretched version of the 787, expecting to take delivery of first 787-9 in the third quarter of this year."

Right aircraft, right market: Flying 787 on DEN-NRT route is working

After nearly one year of profitable service, our DEN-NRT daily nonstop continues to meet our expectations, illustrating how the combination of our Boeing 787s’ range and capacity pays off when used on the right route. The success of DEN-NRT sets the stage for additional routes that can make the most of our 787 fleet, such as the SFO-CTU (Chengdu, China) service that started in June.
The SFO-CTU flight, at 6,870 miles, will be the longest 787 flight by any airline to operate nonstop in both directions, and that record will be broken when we start 7,920-mile LAX-MEL (Melbourne, Australia) service this fall.
Our growing 787 fleet opens up opportunities for new routes that typify our long-range Asian market strategy as well as allows us to use 787s on existing routes served by less-efficient aircraft. IAH-LOS (Lagos, Nigeria) is a perfect example of a route that became profitable the instant we replaced the Boeing 777 with the smaller and more efficient 787. We’re saving 20 percent in per-seat fuel costs alone by using the newer aircraft.

We will take delivery of two more 787-8s and two 787-9s later this year; the longer-range 787-9s will enable the launch of LAX-MEL. We have 55 more 787s on order, including 20 of the high-capacity 787-10s, for a total fleet of 65

Non vi erano dubbi. Con buona pace degli scettici (che ora naturalmente si perderanno in elogi).

Air New Zealand ha accettato ieri il primo 789

Air New Zealand (NZ, Auckland Int'l) has taken official delivery of its first B787-9, ZK-NZE (msn 34334), following a ceremony held at Everett earlier this week. As the launch customer for the type, Air New Zealand will use its order for ten airframes to replace its outgoing fleet of B767-300(ER)s.

The aircraft is scheduled to see service on flights to Perth Int'l initially followed by Tokyo Narita, Shanghai Pudong and Sydney Kingford Smith.

United Airlines (Chicago) has converted seven of its remaining Boeing 787-8 orders to the larger 787-10 model according to Flightglobal citing a stock exchange filing. The first 787-10 will be delivered in 2018.
Meanwhile the airline will take delivery of its first 787-9 (N38950) later this month.
The 787-10s will replace older Boeing 767-4000 ERs and 777-200s.
United now has 26 787-9s and 27 787-10s on order.
Torn between the two manufacturers, United also has the Airbus A350-1000 on order.

Nuova livrea Etihad sul 787

First photo: Etihad's new Boeing 787 livery

We've already had a sneak peak at the dramatic new livery for Etihad Airways' Airbus A380 – now it's the turn of the Gulf carrier's Boeing 787.
This photo snapped by Matt Cawby and shared on his Flickr photostream shows what's believed to be Etihad's first Boeing 787-9 on the assembly line.

The tail features the same modern make-over as Etihad's A380 superjumbo, first seen at the Airbus facility in Toulouse courtesy of Flickr user A380_TLS_A350.
