Skymark’s A380 Delayed as Interior Specifications Don’t Match

Skymark Airlines Inc. (9204)
, the only Japanese carrier to order Airbus Group NV (AIR)A380s, said the delivery of its superjumbos would be delayed by up to six months as specifications of the plane’s interiors don’t match.

“We ordered interiors from two companies,” Skymark Managing Director Masakazu Arimori told reporters in Tokyo today. “The specifications didn’t match. The parts are being reworked.” Airbus declined to comment.

Skymark was planning to start flights with the superjumbo as early as December, the company had said earlier. Skymark’s first A380 successfully made its maiden flight in April following the completion of airframe assembly and system tests in Toulouse, France, the home of Airbus. The next phase was covering cabin installation and painting at Hamburg, Germany, Airbus said April 8.

The Japanese airline’s announcement follows Qatar Airways Ltd. saying last month that the delivery of its first A380 was delayed as Airbus and the airline agreed to some “fine tuning elements.” Tokyo-based Skymark’s order for six superjumbos, including options, is critical for Airbus to build its footprint in Japan, a market Boeing Co. has dominated as near monopoly for decades.

[h=1]Qatar Airways A380 Deliveries Delayed[/h]Delivery of the first three Airbus A380s to Qatar Airways has been delayed by several weeks due to unresolved cabin issues, the airline's chief executive said.

The delivery had originally been expected around the end of May, coinciding with a meeting of global airlines in Qatar's capital Doha, but was pushed back after the airline apparently rejected the aircraft during a routine pre-delivery inspection.
"The delivery of these Qatar Airways A380 aircraft has been delayed due to certain issues affecting the interior of the cabin which were identified during the airline's standard aircraft delivery process which includes rigorous inspections by its specialist technical team," chief executive Akbar Al Baker said in an emailed statement.
"As a result of the findings, the delivery schedule of the airline's A380 aircraft has been impacted to allow Airbus to address Qatar Airways' requests."
Airbus said it could not comment on delivery dates for individual aircraft, which was a matter for the customer.

The Airbus A380 does not feature in the current plans of Delta Air Lines, an executive at the carrier said, citing the reliability and efficiency of smaller aircraft."We don't see an application for the A380 in our network," Steve Dickson, senior vice president for flight operations, said during an interview at the AIAA Aviation Forum in Atlanta. The A380, which entered service in 2007, can carry more than 500 passengers. Airbus has been trying to boost sales of the plane.Earlier this month, Delta ordered 15 Airbus A321s in a deal valued at USD$1.65 billion at list prices. It also has issued a request for proposals for the purchase of up to 50 wide-body jets.Dickson said planes with four engines such as the A380 were likely "not viable" for most of Delta's markets. "The reliability of the two-engine airplanes and the efficiency of them is just too compelling," he added.Dickson, who is qualified as a Boeing 757/767 captain and has also flown the 727 and 737 at Delta, also said the carrier was not seeing a shortage of pilots. While some regional carriers have cited problems finding qualified pilots, Dickson said Delta had not seen a big impact yet at its feeder carriers.Delta is hiring 50 pilots a month for the foreseeable future, Dickson said. He added that the majority of the new pilots were replacing retirees."There's a lot that's changing in the industry right now in terms of the career path for pilots that we need to make sure that we stay abreast of," Dickson said. "For example, there are fewer military pilots available. The number of pilots who have been coming out of US flight training schools has been declining for a number of years. We also have a lot of retirements."

Due considerazioni:
1) Sembra proprio che gli americani (tutte le compagnie) non sentano bisogno dell' a380
2) Per un provetto pilota, il mercato americano possa essere uno sbocco in futuro

Emirates (Dubai) on July 16 launched a new Airbus A380 service to Kuwait City, the world’s shortest scheduled A380 flight.
The arrival of the upgraded EK 857 service, which touched down at Kuwait International Airport, marks 25 years of Emirates’ flights to the country.
The Emirates’ A380 flight to Kuwait is just one hour and 45 minutes, the shortest A380 service in operation today. Since 2008, the airline has carried 27.5 million travelers on its now 50 A380s.
Kuwait is only the second market in the Middle East to be served by the airline’s flagship aircraft after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Flight EK 857 leaves Dubai at 1600 and arrives in Kuwait at 1645 local time. Flight EK 858 departs Kuwait at 1825 and lands in Dubai at 2110.

AIRSHOW-HK Airlines to drop A380s in order reshuffle -sources

(Reuters) - Hong Kong Airlines is preparing to cancel an order for 10 Airbus A380 superjumbos after an associated leasing company struck an expanded deal to buy 70 smaller A320-family aircraft, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday.
Asked about the status of the order at a news conference, Airbus officials said it remained on the company's order book.
Since March, however, the order is no longer attributed in the order book to the airline itself but to an "undisclosed" customer, according to Airbus data.

Hong Kong Airlines was not available for comment.
The order had been in doubt for some time after it was first caught up in a row between the European Union and China over environmental policy and then the airline was reported as saying it might exchange the A380 commitment for other aircraft.
Hong Kong Airlines shares a common investor, HNA Group , with Hong Kong Aviation Capital which finalised an order for 70 jets at the Farnborough Airshow on Thursday after initially preparing the ground for a 60-plane order at the Paris Airshow last year. Totals31828138148106
