LCY e' nato come aeroporto prevalentemente business. Si vede che cnsiderano FCO una destinazione leisure. Confronta gli orari con quelli per LIN, rotta prettamente business.

Dal 26 ottobre BA incrementa la LHR-MXP, estendendo il night stop nella Winter. Il nuovo volo sarà BA591, dalla domenica al venerdì, con partenza da MXP alle 07.20 (tranne il martedì, alle 08.05). In totale ci saranno 18xw sulla MXP-LHR, 3xd dal lunedì a venerdì, 1 il sabato e 2 la domenica.

BA ha chiuso un accordo con Vistara che permettera' al vettore britannico di vendere sul proprio sito destinazioni operate dal vettore indiano via Delhi, Mumbai e Chennai.
Saranno 13 le nuove destinazioni indiane acquistabili sul sito BA.com.

INDIAN SUMMER FOR BRITISH AIRWAYS AS THEY PARTNER WITH DOMESTIC AIRLINE VISTARA

British Airways and Indian domestic carrier, Vistara, have today announced a new partnership that will open up more routes between London and India than ever before.

As part of the new agreement customers can book seats on Vistara flights to destinations across India from Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. Seats are available to buy on ba.com from today, for travel from September 27, 2018.

British Airways operates two direct flights a day from Heathrow to Mumbai, a double daily service to Delhi and a daily flight to Chennai. The airline also flies direct to Hyderabad and Bangalore from Terminal 5 and is rolling out a £4.5 billion, five-year customer investment plan, that includes the installation of the best quality Wi-Fi and the delivery of 72 new aircraft.

The agreement means that British Airways customers will now be able to visit 13 new destinations across the region, opening up cities such as Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Goa, Kolkata, Kochi, and Pune, that have previously been more difficult to access from the UK.

Rishi Kapoor, British Airways’ Head of Alliances, said: “We have been flying to India for more than 90 years, so it is incredibly exciting for us to be able announce this partnership with such a well-respected carrier. We have been wanting to expand our network in the region for some time and to have Vistara on board is great news for our customers and for companies based in these important cities. Whether it’s soaking up the beaches in Goa, India’s sunshine state, exploring Kochi, Kerala’s colourful city, or taking in the temples and culture of Amritsar, this partnership opens up a whole new range of destinations for holidaymakers too.”

Mr. Sanjiv Kapoor, Chief Strategy & Commercial Officer, Vistara, said: “We are delighted to extend our existing interline and through check-in partnership with British Airways to a codeshare agreement. British Airways customers travelling on the codeshare flights will be able to check their bags straight through to their final destination and both airlines use the same terminals at Delhi and Mumbai airports, making it even easier for customers to connect on to domestic services.

Customers travelling on Vistara will enjoy complimentary meals and will be able to choose between three different cabins, including India’s only Premium Economy class. As part of the codeshare agreement, British Airways Executive Club members can also collect Avios and earn tier points when booking on ‘BA’ coded Vistara flights.

British Airways offers dedicated services on flights to India, including tailored menus and local language speaking cabin crew.​

A new taste to on-board catering

Today we announce that from 2020 all on-board catering at LHR will be provided by DO&CO and by Newrest at LGW.

Carolina Martinoli, Director of Brand and Customer Experience, said: "Our customers tell us that when they're taking a flight, great food and beverages make a real difference to them. It's a huge driver of customer satisfaction so we want to make sure we deliver a great experience.

"The appointment of these two suppliers will deliver consistently high-quality meals on every flight and streamline the complex logistics associated with catering hundreds of flights a day from Heathrow and Gatwick.”

Neither DO&CO or Newrest are new to us: DO&CO already provides our catering from New York JFK and Chicago and, from London, supplies our Premium food for JFK, Club Europe and Mid-Haul services.

Newrest supplies catering in London City for CityFlyer and inbound from Santiago, Lima, San Jose, Accra, Lagos, Cape Town and Johannesburg. This knowledge of our business will help a smooth transition of service from Gate Gourmet, DHL and Alpha. The details of this are being worked on so look out for more information in the coming weeks.

Our thanks go to Gate Gourmet and DHL at Heathrow and Alpha at Gatwick for the way they’ve helped us deliver for our customers over many years and we’ll continue to work with Gate Gourmet globally.

Over the coming months we will work closely with Gate Gourmet, DHL and Alpha to ensure all flights at Heathrow and Gatwick are successfully transitioned by 2020.
Newsletter interna. Questo, per me, e' un grande successo da parte di Carolina Martinoli, che - dalle pochissime interazioni che ho avuto con lei - mi are veramente "on the ball". Si sapeva che, qualche mese fa, aveva deciso di rimetter mano al catering, visto il mezzo successo del nuovo servizio (prima doveva essere tutto DO&CO, con First e non-premium in mano a Gategourmet, poi passato tutto, di nuovo, a GG). Sapendo qual e' il livello di scrutinio per le spese, essere riusciti a prendere Do&Co e' un bel successo.

Le pappardelle all'astice di Do&Co sono state il piatto più squisito che io abbia mangiato a bordo di un volo in Y. Ma questo avveniva quasi vent'anni fa, chissà se la qualità è ancora quella.

Possibly not. Tuttavia, volando spesso con LOT ed Austrian (entrambe con catering Do&Co, incluse le salette di Varsavia e Vienna), posso dirti che la qualità del cibo (parlo di business sul corto e medio raggio) non è affatto male (sò che TW non sarà d'accordo ma... :D).

Di sicuro e' meglio della sbobba propinata da Gate Gourmet, i cui cuochi lavoravano (o erano detenuti) presso il riformatorio minorile di Feltham.

Da quanto mi dicevano colleghi "che se ne occupano", c'è una rotta in zona al vaglio, ma a quanto ne sapevo io (fino a un mesetto fa) non c'era nulla di deciso. Come mi dicevano quelli direttamente responsabili per l'area, "Fosse stata in America l'aprivamo ieri".

KONNICHIWA TO OSAKA-KANSAI! AS BRITISH AIRWAYS ADDS JAPANESE CITY TO GLOBAL NETWORK

British Airways customers are set to soak up Osaka next summer as the airline is launching direct flights to Japan’s second largest city. The four-per-week service takes off from March 31, 2019 with flights departing from Heathrow Terminal 5 and landing into Osaka’s Kansai International Airport.

The new route takes the number of daily flights between London and Japan offered as part of British Airways’ joint business with Japan Airlines up to 32 per week.

Japanese tourism is set to grow from 24 million annual visitors in 2016 to 40 million in 2020. Osaka was recently named as the third most liveable city in the world* and is considered to be the food capital of Japan.

Japan Airlines will also offer a code share on the new service, further strengthening the joint business and giving customers more opportunities to earn and redeem Avios loyalty points across the network.

Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, said: “Our partners Japan Airlines and Finnair have demonstrated that Osaka is a hugely popular route with leisure and business travellers alike, so we are excited to launch direct flights from London, giving customers another gateway. Japan is a highly sought-after destination for British tourists and many of the country’s key attractions are within easy reach of Osaka. This new route will also open up more opportunities for companies to explore and build business in the region so we’re expecting this new service to be well received by our customers.”

Hideki Oshima, Japan Airlines’ Executive Officer International Relations and Alliances, said “We are extremely excited with the announcement of British Airways’ new route. Not only does it provide more choices and greater convenience for our passengers traveling between Japan and Europe, but it is also great news for the Kansai region. We look forward to serving our mutual customers through our codeshare service and contributing to the regional economy in Osaka.”

The route will be operated by one of British Airways’ newest aircraft, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with special return fares from £599 in World Traveller, £999 in World Traveller Plus and £2499 in Club World available to book from today on ba.com and jal.com.

British Airways is also adding four cities to its joint business agreement with Japan Airlines, with the BA code being put on flights between Tokyo Haneda and Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Komatsu and Matsuyama.

British Airways will launch 17 new routes across the globe this year including direct flights to Durban that start next month. These new routes come as the airline rolls out a £4.5 billion investment plan for customers over the next five years, which includes the installation of the best quality WiFi and power in every seat, fitting 128 long-haul aircraft with new interiors and taking delivery of 72 new aircraft.

Evviva!!! Ottima notizia, speriamo presto nel daily e in nuove rotte per l'Asia. Se non ricordo male alcuni 789 sono stati convertiti, come ordine, in 788, per cui spererei almeno in un'altra rotta (nel 2020).

Our new year-round flights, which start on 16th February next year, means we will offer four German routes from our Docklands base.

As well as the new service we're adding extra winter frequency on the popular Berlin, Dublin and Prague routes from November this year and to Geneva from December.

Return flights to Berlin will go up to 18 a week, Dublin to 38 a week, Prague to seven a week and Geneva to 16 a week from December.

E siccome non si possono avere troppe belle notizie in questa compagnia, l'intera base ICC (International Cabin Crew) di HKG e' stata chiusa con effetto immediato. I roster di tutti i crew sono stati azzerati e hanno ricevuto comunicazione di riportare le loro uniformi e badge in ufficio, oggi. I loro posti sono stati presi da crew in partenza da LHR e da crew che era andato positioning a HKG.

Da in punto di vista, questa chiusura e' in linea con la chiusura di altri basi, in particolare GRU, EZE, e il trend generalizzato di outsourcing e taglio dei "costi fissi", e il modus operandi e' quello di fare esattamente il minimo sindacale richiesto dalla legge locale. L'ho visto, e molti miei amici l'hanno purtroppo sperimentato sulla propria pelle, in molti dipartimenti. Cio' che lo rende particolarmente odioso e' che la legge di Hong Kong, cosi mi dicono, e' che se anche solo un giorno passa tra l'annuncio e l'avvenuto licenziamento, i dipendenti hanno diritto ad avere un anno di stipendio; in questo caso BA ha deciso di essere velocissima, licenziando e annunciando allo stesso tempo. C'era gente che stava andando in aeroporto per volare. Al momento girano voci su quanto - chi dice poco, chi dice tanto - sulla redundancy pay pagata ai dipendenti; non so cosa sia vero, non so cosa sia falso, quindi non giudico. Cio' che e' innegabile e' che un trattamento del genere e' qualcosa che mi aspetterei da Ebenezer Scrooge, non dalla compagnia per cui lavoro.
