BERLINO - Entrera' in funzione alla fine di ottobre del 2011 il 'Berlin Brandenburg International' (Bbi), il nuovo grande aeroporto di Berlino destinato a prendere il posto dei tre scali aerei attualmente in attivita', nessuno dei quali tuttavia e' adeguato alle necessita' di una grande citta', capitale del paese europeo piu' importante in fatto di economia e popolazione. I lavori del nuovo aeroporto - che sostituira' lo scalo di Schoenefeld, l'aeroporto della vecchia Berlino est - hanno preso ufficialmente il via ieri con la posa simbolica della prima pietra. Il ministro dei Traporti Wolfgang Tiefensee (Spd), il sindaco (e capo del governo regionale) di Berlino Klaus Wowereit (Spd) e il premier del Brandeburgo Matthias Platzeck (Spd) - presenti alla cerimonia - hanno sottolineato l'importanza che il nuovo aeroporto avra' in termini di nuovi posti di lavoro e di sviluppo dell'economia e del turismo. Fattori questi di primaria importanza per lo sviluppo di una regione del paese - quella orientale ex comunista - interessata da una disoccupazione che sfiora il 18%. Il 'Berlin Brandeburg International' avra' una capacita' iniziale fra 22 e 25 milioni di passeggeri all'anno, con la possibilità in seguito di arrivare a 40 milioni di passeggeri. I tre aeroporti attualmente in funzione hanno totalizzato lo scorso anno insieme circa 17 milioni di passeggeri. Con l'entrata in funzione del nuovo scalo internazionale di Schoenefeld – ad una trentina di km a sudest di Berlino - chiuderanno anche gli altri due aeroporti attualmente in attivita': Tegel (nordovest), che assicura oggi la massima parte dei voli internazionali, cessera' l'attivita' nel 2012, mentre per Tempelhof (pieno centro di Berlino) - reso celebre dal ponte aereo alleato del 1948-49 durante il blocco sovietico di Berlino - la chiusura e' prevista gia' per il prossimo anno. Non e' escluso tuttavia che Tempelhof venga mantenuto aperto per il servizio di piccoli velivoli privati.

The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, the prime minister of the State of Brandenburg, Matthias Platzeck, the federal transport minister, Wolfgang Tiefensee, and the managing directors of Berlin Airports today attended the ground-breaking ceremony for Berlin’s new international airport BBI, thus marking the start of construction on the most important traffic and infrastructure project in eastern Germany.
In his speech, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, stated: “The expansion of Schöneberg Airport to build the new BBI is a central project for Germany’s capital city. BBI will greatly enhance Berlin’s ability to compete on an international level; it will bring more visitors to the city, create international air connections and generate more jobs. The ground-breaking ceremony underscores the fact that BBI has now taken the step from the drawing board into reality. The flexible plans for BBI make the new airport ideally suited to handle all types of air traffic, from low-cost carriers to scheduled services and intercontinental flights.”
Matthias Platzeck, prime minister of the State of Brandenburg: “Our future is being built here! BBI is a key driving force for creating jobs in Berlin and Brandenburg. The region has already received orders worth €180 million on account of the airport and local businesses stand to profit by bidding for the many services listed in the BBI tender directory. The current construction phase will be governed by the same stringent rules that applied during the approval process: the airport will be a good, reliable neighbour. The successful resettlement of the village of Diepensee and parts of the village of Selchow, the wide range of compensating measures, ecological monitoring of all planning and construction processes and an extensive noise protection scheme all pull together to create a good, sound basis for the future.”
The federal transport minister, Wolfgang Tiefensee, stressed the significance of the new airport: “BBI will be a modern, highly competitive airport and traffic hub, and will be fully equipped with the very best rail and road connections. The airport is a crucial new addition to Germany’s airports; its outstanding transregional importance is a key step in the regeneration of eastern Germany. Today’s ground-breaking ceremony also sends out a clear message that Germany remains one of the world’s leading business locations: we are implementing all the necessary projects to ensure that we remain internationally competitive, and we are further boosting the attractiveness of the German capital and the entire region.”
BBI will provide the region around the German capital with an urgently needed airport capable of coping with the increase in air traffic volumes over the next few decades. When the airport opens at the start of the 2011/2012 winter timetable it will have the capacity to handle 22-25 million passengers per annum. BBI is based on a modular plan and can be extended as required to handle as many as 40 million passengers in line with market growth.
“The dynamic growth of Berlin Airports will continue to accelerate in the second half of 2006,” said airport director Dr. Rainer Schwarz. “Increasing traffic volumes are an important prerequisite for BBI. I am fully confident that we can position BBI on the market as an airport with a strong focus on European and selected intercontinental point-to-point traffic. The airport’s unique location at the heart of Europe means that it is destined to become the premier stepping stone to eastern Europe and Asia. We are also convinced that the low-cost segment, which already plays a key role in air traffic, will continue to occupy a strong position.”
The architecture of BBI will clearly reference that of the German capital,” said BBI managing director Thomas Weyer. “Our work is shaped by a decisive cost-consciousness; the extension will follow a modular plan in line with market demand. Construction costs are below those of comparable projects and low operating costs for the terminal are key planning targets.”

Aprirà a ottobre il nuovo aeroporto di Berlino-Brandeburgo
Sarà operativo da ottobre prossimo il nuovo aeroporto internazionale Berlino-Brandeburgo, che sarà l'unico aeroporto della città dopo la chiusura, nell'ottobre 2008, dello storico Tempelhof e di quella prevista anche per il Tegel. Dedicato a Willy Brandt, il nuovo scalo berlinese si sviluppa su una superficie di 1.470 ettari con un terminal di 6 livelli che potrà gestire fino a 27 milioni di passeggeri l'anno e che potrà essere progressivamente ampliato fino ad accoglierne 45 milioni. L'aeroporto avrà due piste parallele lunghe circa 4 chilometri ciascuna ed è al centro di una fitta rete di trasporti, sia su gomma che su ferro, con sei binari sotto il terminal predisposti per l'Alta velocità. Davanti al nuovo aeroporto sta sorgendo anche l'Airport City, un centro urbano di servizi che comprende anche un hotel 4 stelle, un centro congressi e un parcheggio per oltre 10mila posti auto. TTG

Secondo voi chi sarà la prima compagnia del BBI? Sono incerto tra AirBerlin attuale prima compagnia a TXL e Easyjet prima compagnia a SXF, inoltre adesso andando ad operare dallo stesso aeroporto aumenterà la concorrenza diretta tra le due.

LH al BBI sarà solo la terza compagnia e ha un network principalmente nazionale con pochissimi se non nulli collegamenti internazionali, al contrario AB e U2 hanno molte piu' rotte internazionali.

Già alla sua apertura il BBI sarà il terzo aeroporto tedesco con 20 milioni di pax superando DUS. LH è probabile che aumenterà il network europeo e inserirà un limitato numero di rotte di lungo raggio come hanno fatto a DUS.

ehehe mi piace molto, soprattuttola "reductio ad unum" berlinese. Sempre 6 passi avanti i tedeschi.
Una curiosità sapete se il codice ufficiale del nuovo aeroporto sarà proprio BBI? Mi piacerebbe che lo fosse ma non ne sono sicuro.

BBI è già usato... non so come abbiano risolto la faccenda.
ad oggi il codice è usato per l'aeroporto di Bhubaneswar (BBI)
Comunque con l'entrata in oneworld di AB diventerà sicuramente uno scalo molto importante e si giocherà da subito il terzo posto dietro FRA/MUC in concorrenza con DUS.

Since the acronym BBI is already in use as IATA code for Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar, India, Berlin Brandenburg International will use BER (the current Metropolitan Area Code for the two Berlin airports).
