Accordo storico. Secondo me si stanno iniziando a gettare le basi per qualcosa si più importante.
Emirates, Etihad announce major collaboration, fly from Dubai or Abu Dhabi on single booking
Under the agreement, both Emirates and Etihad customers will be able to purchase a single ticket to either Dubai or Abu Dhabi and take a return flight from the other airport.
The UAE’s flagship carriers Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday on the sidelines of the Arabian Travel Market to expand their interline agreement and provide travellers with additional options when visiting the UAE.
Why does it matter?
Under the agreement, both carriers’ customers will be able to purchase a single ticket to either Dubai or Abu Dhabi and take a return flight from the other airport.
Moreover, the first-of-its-kind agreement offers travellers the flexibility of one-stop ticketing for their full journey and a convenient baggage check-in process.
The interline expansion will allow visitors to make the most of their trip to the UAE, and save time by offering more flexible options for their departure point.
Customers travelling to the UAE will also have the option of multi-city flights, with the choice to travel from one city on both carriers’ networks, and conveniently return to another point served by either Emirates or Etihad.
Boosting UAE tourism
The collaboration aims to boost tourism to the UAE from key source markets, by enabling visitors to experience more than one destination on a single itinerary.
In the agreement’s initial stages, each carrier will focus on attracting visitors to the UAE by developing inbound interline traffic from select points in Europe and China.
“We are pleased to be working again with Etihad Airways – this time to allow each carrier to offer a new range of seamless travel options in and out of the UAE. Emirates and Etihad are leveraging on our strengths to expand our respective customer offerings and boost UAE tourism,” Emirates Airline President, Sir Tim Clark said, adding that the new agreement provides a strong foundation to develop further opportunities between both airlines and is an example of their commitment to the UAE’s vision for continued economic diversification.
The partnership aligns with the UAE government’s objective to consolidate the UAE’s position as a preferred global tourist destination, and foster growth in the UAE’s tourism sector.
Tourism is one of the key pillars of the UAE Economy and is expected to contribute $31.6 billion (AED116.1 billion), or 5.4% of the nation’s total GDP, and create over a million jobs by 2027.
