Qatar Airways flight evacuated amid bomb threat

A passenger aboard Qatar Airways’ flight QR 541 allegedly started shouting loudly, proclaiming the presence of a bomb on the aircraft.

A Qatar Airways aircraft bound for London from Kolkata via Doha was evacuated on Tuesday, just minutes before scheduled take-off due to a bomb threat, according to local media reports.

False alarm

According to sources cited by India Today, a passenger aboard Qatar Airways’ flight QR 541 started shouting loudly, proclaiming the presence of a bomb on the aircraft.

The crew immediately informed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and all 541 passengers were offloaded.

Airport security personnel thoroughly searched the aircraft with the assistance of police and sniffer dogs. However, no evidence of any explosive device was discovered.

CISF detained the individual for interrogation, and his father was summoned for assistance. During the interrogation, the passenger claimed he was informed by a fellow traveller on the same flight about the alleged bomb.

When the passenger’s father arrived at the airport, he presented medical documents confirming his son’s ongoing treatment for a mental illness, in an attempt to justify the passenger’s allegations.

In February, a 59-year-old man, who arrived late at the airport for his Chennai flight from Hyderabad, made a hoax call to the police, falsely claiming the presence of a bomb on the aircraft.
