The Aurel Vlaicu – Baneasa Airport opened Tuesday a 1500 sq m terminal for business travellers, Mediafax reports. “This is a project we announced a year ago. The new terminal will be assigned to private flights, given from next March onward, Baneasa Airport will no longer host low-cost flights, which will be transferred to Otopeni,” Transport Minister Anca Boagiu said at the inauguration ceremony.
Also, Boagiu recommended that low cost flight operators should “abstain venting their grievances” over their flights being moved to Otopeni, as the services provided at Baneasa Airport were ‘below the standards of a bus terminal somewhere in the provinces”.
Some of the low cost airlines complained about the rising costs linked to their operations being transferred to Otopeni, where they say services are a lot more expensive. The terminal has two departure gates and allows for a passenger flow of 30,000 travellers a year. The investment was entirely paid out of the pocket of the Bucharest National Airports Company.
