airberlin to carry the name Berlin Brandenburg Airport around the world



An airberlin aircraft with a very special design landed today at Berlin-Tegel Airport. The long-haul Airbus A330-200 carries a 1.60-metre-high and 8.10-metre-long logo for the new airport for the capital region and will from now on fly around the world bearing the message “BER Berlin Brandenburg Airport – Europe’s most modern airport”. The plane with its BER livery was welcomed by CEO Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, and airberlin CEO, Hartmut Mehdorn.

Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO airberlin, said: “This branding demonstrates our clear commitment to Berlin and emphasises our position as the number one airline in the capital region. We are very pleased to already be carrying the name of our new home base around the world with us; in the future we are planning further growth at our hub here, where we have our headquarters and where more than 2,800 of our workforce are employed.”

CEO Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, commented: “airberlin is the home carrier at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport. So we’re particularly pleased airberlin is now going to be carrying the airport’s name with it around the world. We’re tantalisingly close to the opening of BER on 3rd June – when together we’ll be heading for a very promising future.”

The airberlin Airbus A330-200, registration number D-ALPJ, was given the new branded look by engineers at airberlin technik in Düsseldorf, flying from there to land in Berlin at 12.00 noon. The plane will carry the BER livery for two years and fly passengers to destinations such as Abu Dhabi, New York and Los Angeles. This afternoon, the airberlin Airbus, flight number AB7160, will take off for Bangkok at 17.55. Anyone interested can track the progress of the entire flight online at airberlin.com/ber-airbus.

Bello, mi ricorda molto la nuova stazione centrale Hauptbanhof di Berlino con quelle grandi vetrate.

Se le foto sono recenti non vi sembrano un po' indietro coi lavori? Siamo sicuri che ce la faranno per il 3 giugno? Mancano solo 4 mesi...Hanno già dovuto rinviare una volta l'apertura da ottobre 2011 a giugno 2012. Speriamo bene...

First “passengers” to test new Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Trial operations involving volunteer testers officially began this week. On 7 February, 116 days before the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens, the first passengers checked in. Approximately 250 airport testers simulated departing passengers. All the processes involved in a normal flight were tested, from check-in to security checks and boarding.

“Starting this week, we will spend almost four months checking all the aspects of normal flight operations at BER. From now on until May, 10,000 airport testers will play the role of passengers and help us to simulate the processes at Berlin Brandenburg Airport as realistically as possible,” said Prof. Dr Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Brandenburg Airport. “We are very pleased with how the first days went because most of our processes worked well. The vast majority of testers gave us positive feedback and made valuable comments which we will now assess and integrate in future simulations.”

“During trial operations at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, we will try out all our systems and processes,” explained Dr Manfred A. Körtgen, Managing Director of Operations/BBI at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. “Our aim is to identify and rectify any errors in the workflows before the airport opens. With the help of the pretend passengers, we want to pave the way for real operations to commence as smoothly as possible on 3 June.”

Schedule for trial operations using airport testers

Following a safety briefing and an explanation of the day’s schedule, the volunteers were allowed to enter the new terminal as its first wave of passengers. Simulated departures on the first day included flights to Vienna, Munich and London operated by airberlin, Lufthansa and easyJet respectively. Allocated to the various flights, the airport testers headed for their check-in desks pushing trolleys laden with suitcases which were provided for the test run. After checking in their luggage and receiving their boarding passes, they went through the security checkpoints operated by the German border police. Once through security, the testers proceeded to the main pier at the other end of the terminal, where they simulated boarding at their gate.

As well as practising the normal procedure from check-in to security and boarding, some airport testers were given “event cards” to enact exceptional scenarios. These special situations included withdrawing from a flight after checking in and asking to change seats when boarding.


Background

The new airport will be tested between November 2011 and May 2012. Trial runs with volunteers commenced on 7 February. Around 10,000 airport testers will test all operational procedures, from check-in to security checks to arrivals and departures. In total, 18,000 people from the area volunteered to participate in the test runs.

Over 100,000 check-ins will be simulated and up to 300,000 pieces of luggage will be sorted by the baggage system before the opening of the airport. In total, over 500 processes will be tested.

Work has been under way since September 2006 to transform Schönefeld Airport into the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport. From 3 June 2012, this airport in South-East Berlin will handle all flights to and from the Berlin Brandenburg region. As step one of the process, Tempelhof Airport was closed on 30 October 2008. Tegel and Schönefeld Airports will be closed in 2012 when BER opens.

Strano che affermino che i test sono cominciati il 7 febbraio: io li ho fatti già il 26 gennaio scorso, e mi risulta che fossimo il primo contingente :D Purtroppo alle comparse è vietato fare foto durante lo svolgimento delle prove, quindi non posso documentare la mia esperienza con immagini.

L'aerostazione mi è piaciuta molto dal punto di vista estetico, specialmente per quanto riguarda la mastodontica hall centrale landside, davvero impressionante. Sorprendentemente piacevole il molo nord, dedicato alle low cost: nonostante sia un po' più essenziale rispetto alle altre ali dell'aerostazione per contenere i costi, le ampie vetrate lo rendono molto luminoso. Voto ottimo anche alla nuova corporate identity di BER, che si estende a tutti i cartelli/indicazioni all'interno del terminal e gioca sui toni del rosso scuro, utilizzando inoltre un carattere appositamente disegnato: molto originale e decisamente elegante.

Dal punto di vista funzionale, pur tenendo conto del fatto che l'interno del terminal è ancora un cantiere (con cavi a penzoloni, polvere e tutto il resto), ho notato alcune lacune, peraltro confermate da altri "passeggeri" del mio gruppo. Tra queste mi hanno colpito le ridotte dimensioni dei tabelloni partenze, alcune indicazioni nel molo airside non sempre univoche (ma per la verità solo un paio), la mancanza di ascensori/scale mobili per alcuni gate remoti (tra cui TUTTI quelli del molo low cost!), e dei potenziali colli di bottiglia in alcuni punti del terminal. Temo che per gli ultimi due punti non si potrà far nulla nel breve termine, ma a parte ciò, l'impressione generale è stata davvero molto buona: finalmente avremo un bell'aeroporto, degno di una grande città come Berlino.

Sono comunque curioso di vedere se e come i commenti dei tester verranno incorporati durante questa fase di prova. Vi aggiornerò in merito dopo la mia prossima giornata di test (il 3 marzo) :)

ma già con Monaco lo hanno capito, solo qui si pensa ai propri piccoli interessi invece che pensare ai benefici di qualche piccolo sacrificio.

L'aeroporto avrà due piste parallele lunghe circa 4 chilometri ciascuna ed è al centro di una fitta rete di trasporti, sia su gomma che su ferro, con sei binari sotto il terminal predisposti per l'Alta velocità. Davanti al nuovo aeroporto sta sorgendo anche l'Airport City, un centro urbano di servizi che comprende anche un hotel 4 stelle, un centro congressi e un parcheggio per oltre 10mila posti auto. TTG

Ecco come si fa. Non si crea dal niente una struttura senza progettare NELLO STESSO TEMPO servizi e trasporti efficienti. Da noi l'AV è arrivata a MXP solo l'anno scorso, più di dieci anni dopo l'apertura dello scalo.
Ancora stiamo ad abbaiare alla luna...

L'AV non arriva a MXP, ci arrivano sulla linea lenta i treni predisposti per l'AV.
In compenso la "vera" linea AV MI-TO passa a 17.5 km dal T1, consentendo probabilmente ai controllori del traffico aereo di MXP, di vedere i Frecciarossa in lontananza quando il meteo è favorevole.

Beh. A CDG c'è una linea passante dell'AV. Aperta chissà quanti anni fa. Ma si sa, Parigi è sulla luna e ci vivono i marziani. Ecco perchè ci sono arrivati molto prima.
