PARIS: Skymark to offer lowest-density seating on A380
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Skymark Airlines appears set to offer the lowest-density seating arrangement yet on the Airbus A380.
It intends to configure the aircraft with just 394 seats, said president Shinichi Nishikubo at the Paris air show.
The aircraft would fit 280 premium-economy seats on the lower deck and 114 business-class seats on the upper deck.
Nishikubo said the long journeys from Japan on which the A380s would be deployed had sufficient business for premium economy and business, rather than economy, services.
Korean Air has so far been the lowest-density A380 operator, with 407 seats.
Skymark Airlines has amended its order for A380s and will take six of the type, rather than four.
It has not made an engine selection for the aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2014.

China Southern to operate A380 on domestic routes
By Quintella Koh

China Southern Airlines will operate its new Airbus A380s on daily domestic Beijing-Guangzhou and Beijing-Shanghai Hongqiao services.
This would make the SkyTeam alliance member the first operator of the superjumbo to deploy the aircraft on domestic routes. This is due to high domestic demand for air services on both routes, said a company official.
The other existing A380 operators - Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas Airways, Air France and Korean Air - only deploy them on international services.

China Southern will receive its first A380 in September and its second A380 in November, the airline's chairman Si Xianmin told Air Transport Intelligence in June.
Ticket sales for both domestic services will begin on 20 September, but a decision has not been made on when services will begin, said the company official.
China Southern's first international A380 service will be on the Guangzhou-Paris route, added the official.
The airline could increase the frequency on all three A380 services by end-2011.
It could also operate the aircraft on services to the USA, Si told ATI in June.

VIDEO: Lufthansa shows off VIP A380 concepts
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Lufthansa Technik has illustrated possible concepts for a private interior on the Airbus A380, through a video released by its VIP & Executive Jet Solutions division.
The walk-through footage of the computer-generated interior shows several lounge layouts, a combined conference and dining room, office space on the upper deck and areas reserved for guests.
"With 10,000ft2 of available floor area on two decks the A380 offers more room for ideas and wishes than any other VIP aircraft on the market," said Lufthansa Technik.
One A380 is already due to be converted for private use, for Saudi Arabian investment group Kingdom Holding's founder, Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
"One thing is certain," added Lufthansa Technik. "With this aircraft no dream will remain unfulfilled."

oltre a Transaero anche Aeroflot sembra considerare l'A380

Transaero Airlines considers A380, 747-8 orders

By Cathy Buyck | August 19, 2011

Transaero Airlines is analyzing possible orders for the Airbus A380 and/or the Boeing 747-8, CEO Olga Pleshakova revealed at the MAKS Airshow in Russia.
“In 2008, Transaero received a commercial proposal from Airbus on the A380,” she said. “Our team has studied it very carefully and we deem it to be quite interesting. Nevertheless, we’ll also consider the Boeing 747-8 as our choice. The final decision will be made closer to the date and it will be based upon deep research of commercial offers, the Russian aviation market situation and airport infrastructure development.”
The A380s/747-8s would be used to replace older 747s and expand the carrier's fleet from 2015 onward, Pleshakova said.
Privately held UN is the largest operator of widebodies in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe with 17 747s, 777s and 13 767s. A further six 747s are scheduled to be added over the next several months (ATW Daily News, April 29).
The carrier operates some former Japan Airlines 747-400s with 522 seats. Pleshakova said, “Starting from 2015 we’ll phase out all our classic Boeing 747-300s. After 2020 most of our oldest Boeing 747-400s will be also taken out of operation. To both replace them and further develop our fleet, we plan to acquire additional extra-large aircraft within the period of 2015-2025.”
The carrier deploys a mostly Boeing fleet, but earlier this week signed an MOU with Airbus for eight A320neos plus four options (ATW Daily News, Aug. 17).
Pleshakova also said that UN backs the idea, announced by United Aircraft Corp. President Mikhail Pogosyan, to launch a new Russian-built, long-haul widebody aircraft. If “it become a success, Transaero will think of acquiring those jetliners as well,” she said.
Earlier this week, Airbus Executive VP-Europe, Asia and the Pacific Christopher Buckley told reporters at MAKS that Aeroflot is interested in the A380, Reuters reported. “We are studying the possibility of Aeroflot's use of the A380,” said Buckley. “This does not mean that we will sell any A380s tomorrow.”
