Berlino (Germania), 5 set.

Announced strike by pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit on September 10th at Munich Airport

The pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit has announced a strike for flights to and from Lufthansa’s Munich hub scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th, in the time from 08.00 - 16.00 GMT.

Lufthansa flight operations will be heavily affected by the strike, especially flights departing from and arriving in Munich. All Lufthansa flights to and from the Frankfurt hub will presumably operate as scheduled.
Please note also that all flights of our Lufthansa Group airlines Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings and Swiss (operated by OS, SN, 4U, LX) as well as flights of Air Dolomiti will operate as scheduled.

To assure a certain degree of planning reliability, Lufthansa is working with high priority on a special flight schedule during the strike period.
Lufthansa regrets any inconvenience to Lufthansa passengers caused by the threatened strike measures by the pilots union VC and will do its utmost to minimise impacts on passengers.

Lufthansa CEO Seeks Travelers’ Patience in Renewed Strike

Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LHA)
Chief Executive Officer Carsten Spohr asked customers to be patient as he grapples with the longest strike in the airline’s history, saying the future of all employees is at stake as he seeks to find a compromise with pilots seeking to preserve benefits.

Pilots on long-haul planes from Frankfurt, Lufthansa’s main hub, won’t fly today, causing 58 long-haul canceled flights in the seventh day of walkouts this year. Lufthansa said it managed to operate just over half of intercontinental flights planned for today with pilots who volunteered to fly.
“I’m asking for your trust in what is the longest strike in our corporate history and for your understanding as this affects your personal travel plans,” Spohr, himself a pilot, said in a video message posted by the carrier today. “I’m also asking for your understanding that management is responsible for 120,000 employees, not just some 5,000 pilots. We want to offer quality services and be able to invest in the future.”
Lufthansa and flight deck crews have spent months haggling over bridge financing to cover compensation between the time the pilots leave and their official retirement age. The strikes have reduced profit by about 100 million euros ($129 million) so far this year and resulted in cancellation of more than 4,400 flights, Lufthansa has said.
“In order to prevent further hardship on passengers, Lufthansa has to come up with an offer that is negotiable, or else we will be forced to further action in the not so distant future,” Markus Wahl, a board member of the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots union, said in an interview on N24 television.
Lufthansa rose as much as 11 cents, or 0.8 percent, to 12.6 euros in Frankfurt, and traded at 12.59 euros at 11:15 a.m. The stock has lost 18 percent this year, more than Air France-KLM (AF)Group, which is little changed in the period, and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (IAG), which has lost 7.4 percent.

Pilots To Strike At Lufthansa Cargo

October 7, 2014
German pilots union VC has called a strike at Lufthansa Cargo for October 8-9 in a dispute over retirement benefits.
The strike is the sixth by Lufthansa pilots this year and the first to target the air freight unit only.
The union said the walkout would last from October 8 at 03:00 until October 9 at 22:30 local time, affecting all Lufthansa Cargo flights departing from German airports.
The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union, representing about 5,400 Lufthansa pilots, wants the airline to maintain a scheme that allows pilots to retire early at the age of 55 and still receive up to 60 percent of their pay before pension payments start.
Lufthansa said 21 cargo flights were scheduled to depart from its main hub in Frankfurt during the strike and that it would try to operate as many flights as possible.
"Since about half of the freight is being carried by Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines' passenger aircraft, customers of Lufthansa Cargo will have our global transport network at their disposal even during the announced strike times," it said.
Lufthansa has offered to keep the pension scheme for employees who started before this year but wants to increase the earliest possible retirement age for new recruits. The union says it is unfair for new pilots to not receive this option.
