Fightertown Wittmund - Home of the Rhinos
Tuesday and Wednesday I have been to Wittmund again, to visit some friends within the JG 71"R" and my main focus was to capture mighty Phantoms this time duing nightflying, and we were succesfull - snow and a blue sky was what we found in Wittmund that day, when we arrived there.....
Like last time there is still plenty of snow in Wittmund and it was a great atmosphere, to see the base still covered with so much snow. Because u never know when you will ever see so much snow again in Wittmund.
.....luckily we got sun and plenty of mighty Phantoms - what do u need more?!
Yep, flying "Rhino´s" and we got plenty as last time...... :yahoo:
We got plenty of entertainment this time in Wittmund, as the German TV station ZDF was filming stuff for an upcomming coverage....and we got a great show, as they had also an aerial team on base.
They flew with a EC-135 helicopter where ever u can imagine a heli around, above a F-4....they filmed two F-4´s during taxing, last-chance, and they even tried to catch speed with them during t/off - guess who won the race.....
And another chapter was set on Tuesday, when the first German Air Force "phemale" Phantom Phlyer had her first flight in Wittmund - well done Lt. ......  , so we got now beside a GAF Tornado jetpilot , even a mighty Phantom Phlyer too....rock on!
Especially when you are rewarded with a great sunny, under a crispy sky and Phantoms deaparting into that sunrise what u like to get more - yes, 4 F-4 Phantoms during nightflying.....
We could catch also 4 Phantoms during preparation for a night sortie and another "panother "point" I can tick off from my "mind list";-)
Ok enough for now, let tell the pictures the rest of the story...... hope you enjoy them, and comments & critiques are more as welcome.
More to come...stay tuned
Cheers
Mick
Welcome to 711 Sqdn
Burn, Baby Burn...this was the F-4 which had "slighty" undercarrigae fire @ Cold Lake, here on return from maintenance at Jever Airbase since Aug. 2009 - welcome home
Luckily the nice markings were still "on", so I was happy tp catch the first landing after maintenance on WTM. The airframe has right now 6571:10 flight hours
Maintenance work was done on that mighty Phantom...looks "empty" with both J-79´s
One Rhino is taxiing to the last-chance are - looks nice from that angle
Something u wont see again...EC vs Phantom...
Heyyyyy...its always a pleasure to shoot Phantoms, as the Phlyers are always so friendly....
FEEL THE NOISE.......
RTB WTM..breaking overhead with some contrails comming up from the edges....
Keeping it low for the tv crew.....
Let´s race....this is the first German Air Force "Phemale Phantom Phlyer" after her first solo-flight that day - well done
Now it was time for some nightshots.....looks still really nice for her age - a mighty Phantom
This was the "shot" which I had in mind for some time and finally I was able to accomplish my idea.........what a great athmosphere
