Taipei – TransAsia Airways, storica compagnia domestica di Taiwan fondata nel 1951, ha annunciato la chiusura delle operazioni con effetto immediato. Il consiglio di amministrazione della società, riunito ieri a Taipei, ha diffuso un comunicato stampa tramite il proprio sito web annunciando la messa a terra di tutta la flotta il 23 Novembre.
I vertici della compagnia citano, tra le motivazioni che hanno spinto alla chiusura, la situazione stagnante del settore in Estremo Oriente e le ripercussioni dovute ai due incidenti mortali del 2014 e 2015, che causarono la perdita di due velivoli Atr-72 e la morte di 91 persone tra passeggeri e membri dell’equipaggio. Le perdite nei primi nove mesi dell’anno ammonterebbero a 2.2 miliardi di dollari taiwanesi (circa 65 milioni di Euro).
Il presidente del consiglio di amministrazione della holding TransAsia, Vincent Lin, ha confermato che non è stato possibile trovare altri partner industriali, né nazionali né internazionali, per ricapitalizzare la compagnia e continuare a sostenere le operazioni. Si è preferito quindi procedere alla chiusura in attesa della liquidazione, dal momento che gli assett della compagnia sono sufficienti a coprire i debiti finora contratti, incluse alcune cause ancora pendenti relative ai due gravi incidenti che hanno colpito la compagnia.
Il vettore, che lascerà a terra un totale di 24 aerei, aveva in ordine sei Airbus A321-200neo e quattro A330-800neo; di quest’ultimo modello, in particolare, quello di TransAsia era rimasto uno degli ultimi due ordini ancora attivi, insieme a quello di Hawaiian Airlines per altre sei macchine.
Nelle scorse settimane, la società aveva già chiuso la controllata V-Air e trasferito la flotta, composta da due Airbus 320 e due Airbus 321, a TransAsia Airways, con il passaggio di alcune rotte a quest’ultima. V-Air era attiva soprattutto nel mercato dei voli low-cost e leisure, servendo principalmente destinazioni internazionali dall’hub della compagnia a Taipei Taoyuan, il principale aeroporto dell’isola.
