St Helena airport

Trovo molto interessante la costruzione dell'aeroporto di St Helena, i futuri voli che ospiterà e le limitazioni operative che comporterà a chi ci volerà (come aeroporto alternato, impossibilità di ripartire col pieno di carburante etc).
L'ultima novità è l'amplamento dei piazzali per poter ospitare aerei di categoria D, come il 757. Prima erano previsti solo in categoria C. Tenenendo conto che la maggior parte dei voli sarà per l'Europa, si sarebbe avuta una grossa limitazione specie sui voli di rientro.

In particolare il capitolo FAQ è sorprendente per il livello di approfondimento delle questioni più varie, direi un modello per qualunque ente pubblico che dovesse comunicare ai cittadini i pro e i contro di un progetto. se non vado errato, avevo letto che le autorità vogliono attivare un collegamento con Ascension Island (sempre appartenente al Commonwealth britannico) e col Sud Africa.

Per Ascension Is. devono avere il "permesso" degli USA in quanto l'aeroporto è una loro base militare, il che crea problemi anche per l'uso come aeroporto alternato, essendo il più vicino.

Although NASA usage ended in 1967, the Air Force continues its usage with several hundred personnel, mostly contractors.

ok, ok! Ma in ogni caso Ascension Island non è isolata dato che c'è il volo BZZ-ASI-MPN

Mentre il volo da St Helena è previsto...mensile!

Sono voli della sezione trasporti truppe dellla Royal Air Force, attualmente appaltati ad una societa' portoghese. Partono dalla base aerea di Brize Norton vicino a Oxford e fanno scalo a Asuncion, mi sembra ci siano due voli la settimana.
