Air Berlin (AB, Berlin Tegel) has announced it has filed for bankruptcy with the district court of Berlin Charlottenburg. It has requested the begin insolvency proceedings under self-administration to continue with its already initiated restructuring efforts.
According to the ailing German carrier, the German federal government, Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) and other partners are assisting Air Berlin in its restructuring efforts with the government providing a bridge loan allowing it to continue flight operations for the time being.
Air Berlin is in negotiations with Lufthansa and "other partners" to sell parts of its business and it says that these negotiations are "well advanced and promising" and that it expects these negotiations to be concluded shortly.
The prelude to the filing came when Air Berlin's largest shareholder, Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l), notified it earlier today that it no longer intends to provide it with financial support.
Air Berlin has reiterated that all flights operated by itself and its Niki (HG, Vienna) unit will continue as planned with all bookings still valid.

Confermo. Arrivata la news anche internamente stamattina. Lufthansa garantisce tutte le operazioni dei voli Air Berlin in wet lease per Eurowings ed Austrian Airlines, anticipando che verranno presi differenti settori di AB in un breve futuro. Nel mentre, per garantire le operazioni di volo di AB nei prossimi mesi, Lufthansa e lo stato tedesco insieme pianificano aiuti per la compagnia. Il primo proviene dal governo con un prestito di 150 milioni di euro. L´azionariato dell´azienda di berlino pare aver espresso il parere secondo il quale "non ci sono sviluppi positivi prevedibili per Air Berlin".
Piccola nota personale: non credo che tutto questo debba sorprendere piú di tanto. Con il trasferimento di Herr Winkelmann da LH ad AB, il wet lease di AB per EW e OS e la sempre piú vicina cooperazione tra Etihad e Lufthansa, credo sia solo un questione di tempo fino a quando vedremo la flotta AB pitturata con colori EW volare sia corto che lungo raggio. Probabilmente ridimensionata rispetto ad oggi, ma mercati come DUS e TXL sono sicuramente posti che LH non vorrá mai e poi mai lasciare essere terra di conquista da parte di Ryan ed Easy.

Ha appena parlato il ministro dei trasporti tedesco Herr Dobrint ed ha annunciato che le trattative per l´acquisto di Air Berlin da parte di Lufthansa sono giá ad uno stadio avanzato, sicuramente peró il governo non impedirá ad altre aziende di manifestare il proprio interesse nei confronti di Air Berlin.
Pare che Air Berlin attendesse un ulteriore iniezione di 50 milioni di euro da parte di Etihad la settimana scorsa, ma l´azionista di Abu Dhabi ha ritirato il proprio supporto non vedendo piú prospettive nell´azienda tedesca.

Mi dicevano - relata refero, notizia di terza mano se va bene - che l'avventura americana di Air Serbia non stia andando affatto bene. Se cosi fosse, ci sarebbe solo Air Seychelles e Jet Airways e possiamo fare cappotto.
Ovviamente a Bruxelles dalla DG concorrenza arrivera' solo un messaggio "out of office".

"Die Welt" ha pubblicato un articolo sul futuro di Air Berlin. Non potendo Lufthansa prendere tutta l´azienda a causa di probabile monopolio su diverse rotte, pare che l´azienda sará divisa tra Lufthansa (o meglio EW) ed Easyjet. Ryanair ha criticato apertamente la decisione del governo di supportare AB, affermando che questo é un vero e proprio regalo per Lufthansa.

Immaginavo fosse saltato il tuo volo, lunedì ero sul 8731 ed ero in orario, ma avevo intuito che avresti volato sul 8733 arrivato poi in ritardo a TXL :sconfortato:
Tra l'altro airberlin venerdì mi ha dato l'opportunità di scoprire che l'er pomata non è una figura mitologica, ma esemplari reali esistono veramente.
Nel mio caso volo ovviamente in wet lease con AZ, assistente di volo super lampadata talmente professionale che la cosa più gentile che abbia fatto era lanciare i tovagliolini come se fossero frisbee.
Vi risparmio ulteriori dettagli.
Intanto i vari forum tedeschi sono pieni di speculazioni: si parla di easyJet, si parla del tentativo di mantenere le operazioni di AB stabili almeno fino alle elezioni di settembre.
Se Lufthansa si aggiudicasse una buona fetta di AB, sarebbe una pessima botta per il mercato interno, dato che molte rotte in attuale duopolio andrebbero in monopolio.

Qualcosa dovranno cedere ad altre compagnie come EasyJet non possono dare Ab in blocco a Lh avrebbe monopolio su diverse rotte.
Secondo me Lh potrebbe prendere le rotte da Dus quelle a vocazione maggiormente Business e lasciare le rotte da Berlino più leisure ad EasyJet.
Qualcosa dovranno cedere ad altre compagnie come EasyJet non possono dare Ab in blocco a Lh avrebbe monopolio su diverse rotte.
Secondo me Lh potrebbe prendere le rotte da Dus quelle a vocazione maggiormente Business e lasciare le rotte da Berlino più leisure ad EasyJet.

Dal punto di vista di Lh non potendo avere tutta Ab meglio cedere qualcosa ad EasyJet che non a Ryanair.
Tra l'altro EasyJet ha una posizione abbastanza debole in Germania, negli anni ha chiuso la base a Dortmund, ha abbandonato Dusseldorf e Colonia e si appresta a chiudere la base ad Amburgo.
L'unico mercato in cui rimane con una presenza consolidata è Berlino.
Dal punto di vista di Lh non potendo avere tutta Ab meglio cedere qualcosa ad EasyJet che non a Ryanair.
Tra l'altro EasyJet ha una posizione abbastanza debole in Germania, negli anni ha chiuso la base a Dortmund, ha abbandonato Dusseldorf e Colonia e si appresta a chiudere la base ad Amburgo.
L'unico mercato in cui rimane con una presenza consolidata è Berlino.
