Thai to operate first A380 on regional routes
By: Cathy Buyck

Thai Airways International (TG) will deploy its first Airbus A380 on regional routes, most likely Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK)-Hong Kong (HKG).
Speaking to ATW during a visit to Toulouse to view the carrier’s first A380 on the final assembly line, TG executives said the carrier will operate between BKK and Frankfurt (FRA) only “after we receive the second aircraft delivery around November 2012. Upon receiving additional aircraft, Thai will operate to London [Heathrow (LHR)] and then Paris [Charles de Gaulle].”
According to insiders, daily BKK-FRA service will commence in January 2013 and BKK-LHR service will begin in spring 2013.
TG has six A380s on firm order and plans to take delivery of the first three aircraft next year and three in 2013 (ATW Daily News, Feb. 9, 2010).
The carrier will configure the A380s in a three-class layout with 507 seats: 435 in economy, 60 in business and 12 in first class.
TG’s first A380 entered the final assembly line in Toulouse at the end of November. Front, central, and aft fuselages, wings, horizontal and vertical tail plane have been assembled. This past weekend the aircraft was moved from the electrical installation bay to the hydraulic systems and powerplant installation station, where it will be fitted with Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines.

Possibile ordine di 10 unita' di A380 da parte di Hong Kong Airlines

Airbus, the world’s largest passenger-jet maker, won a contract from Hong Kong Airlines Ltd. (HKAIRZ) for 10 double decker A380s, valued at about $3.8 billion at list prices.
The planemaker plans to deliver the first A380 to the Chinese airline, backed by HNA Group, in 2015, Kenneth Thong, head of corporate governance and international affairs at the carrier, said in an interview today. Airbus spokesman Stefan Schaffrath declined to comment on orders in advance of a Jan. 17 press conference.
The orders lifts Airbus’s A380 backlog to 188 planes, amid doubts surrounding Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. (KAIR)’s ability to proceed with its planned purchase of five A380s. The Indian airline has reduced flights and in late 2011 deferred delivery of its orders, which include five Airbus A350-800s, 15 A330s, and 24 A320s, to preserve cash.
“We’re in constant communication with Kingfisher but as always, we can’t give details about talks with customers,” said Justin Dubon, a spokesman for Airbus, by telephone from Toulouse.
Shares of Kingfisher fell the most in three weeks today after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India requested that it provide a recovery plan following financial and safety audits.
“I don’t see any significant deliveries coming over the next couple of years for Kingfisher,” said Kapil Kaul, the Indian director for CAPA Centre for Aviation, which advises carriers. “Certainly not this year, not next year, though if the airline’s performance improves Airbus should be able to keep the planes in the backlog.”
The Hong Kong Air order hasn’t yet appeared in Airbus’s order and delivery figures on the Internet. It will bring Airbus’s order tally for A380s to 27 won last year, when the manufacturer also signed contracts with Japan’s Skymark Airlines and South Korea’s Asiana Airlines Inc. for six each, and a further five for Qatar Airways Ltd.

TransAsia vicina all'acquisto di vari A380

Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways mulls A380 order

Taipei-based TransAsia Airways is considering an order for more than two Airbus A380s to facilitate its international expansion to the US over the next few years.
An industry insider said Taiwan’s banks have expressed financial support to finance the A380 aircraft deal. The carrier plans to introduce a new A320 in March and a new A330 in November (ATW Daily News, Nov. 17, 2010).
This year it is expected to open eight routes to Japan from Taipei and is also considering new routes to Korea, Thailand and Malaysia, pending approval from the Taiwan government.
TransAsia, one of the most profitable carriers in Taiwan, has reported a net income of TWD629 million ($20.9 million) for the first nine months of 2011.
