El Al Israel Airlines (LY, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) says it has reached an agreement with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) for the sourcing of Dreamliner aircraft needed as part of its fleet renewal plans.

The Israeli carrier said in a stock market filing that it has undertaken to purchase four B787-9s and five B787-8s from Boeing with the US manufacturer stating firm order agreements for three jets have thus far been signed. The airline also has options for up to seven B787-10s which can be converted to -8 and -9 variants if need be. These optional aircraft are subject to delivery no later than December 31, 2023. As part of the deal, for each option that is firmed up, one more will be allocated resulting in the potential for six more B787-10s or thirteen added options in total.

El Al has also signed Memoranda of Understanding with three undisclosed leasing firms for the lease of six additional B787s - four B787-9s and two B787-8s - on 12-year contracts with options to extend. The signing of the final agreements is expected to take several weeks, it said. A sale/lease back agreement concerning two B787-8s will also be signed with a fourth leasing firm in due course.

All fifteen aircraft are expected to be in service with the carrier between 2017 and 2020 and will be used to replace El Al's fleet of six B747-400s and seven B767-300(ER)s. Option aircraft are expected between 2020 and 2023.

Separately, the airline has selected Roll Royce Trent 1000 motors to power the B787s.

Boeing Dreamliners even more fuel efficient than promised, says Qatar top exec

Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner's have been beating fuel burn estimates, said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar’s chief executive, at a high-profile acceptance ceremony for the airline's 24th and 25th jets Wednesday.

Leaders from Boeing and Qatar Airways turned out in force for the event, which was held at the Boeing Delivery Center in Everett.

In his remarks, Baker said that while Qatar had at one point considered canceling its Dreamliner orders as Boeing struggled with early 787 production woes, he’s now completely satisfied with the jet.

“That chapter we all closed successfully,” he said. “In every respect, the 787 has become a game changer.”

Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner, who called Baker a friend, acknowledged the prior difficulties.

“It hasn’t been the easiest of journeys, but it’s a journey we made together,” Conner said. “I want to thank you for sticking with us.”

Baker said he hopes that Qatar will exercise options for more 787s in the future, which he added would be conversions for larger 787-9s.

Qatar was the Middle East launch customer for the 787, Boeing’s twin-aisle jet, mostly made from carbon composites.

The delivery is especially important to Boeing because the big Middle East carriers – Qatar, Emirates and Ethiad – are all heavy buyers of wide-body jets for their long-range routes.

In a forecast made public Wednesday, Boeing said it expects Middle East Airlines will buy more than 3,000 airplanes in the next 20 years, worth more than $730 billion. Nearly half of those aircraft will be expensive wide-bodies, as opposed to just 23 percent of orders for wide-bodies globally.

Conosciuti nel settore anche come "terrible teens".

Associated Air Center delivers first head-of-state BBJ 787-8

09 FEBRUARY, 2016 BY: KATE SARSFIELD LONDON
US VIP completions and engineering company Associated Air Center (AAC) has delivered the first Boeing BBJ 787-8 to be configured for head-of-state operations.
The handover of aircraft registration TP-01 marks the eighth widebody airliner completion for the StandardAero subsidiary, and its second to this undisclosed VVIP customer – believed to be the President of Mexico, who in 1989 took delivery of the first head-of-state-configured Boeing 757-200. That aircraft – registered as TP-01 and re-registered as TP-02 – remains in presidential service.
AAC says the BBJ 787's 223m² (2,400ft²) cabin area accommodates 82 passengers across three zones. The fourth, “presidential" zone comprises an office, bedroom and en suite bathroom.
At the handover ceremony on 2 February, AAC president James Colleary described the project as “new territory for VIP completions for composite, widebody aircraft”, during which the team in Dallas, Texas “overcame significant new engineering challenges”.
AAC says every VIP passenger seat is equipped with a portable electronic device outlet and a high definition, in-arm, 11in LCD touchscreen monitor to supplement seven 42in LCD bulkhead-mounted monitors. Each of these is connected to a variety of in-flight entertainment sources, including six global and local Blu-ray players, audio video on-demand servers and passenger flight information systems. The presidential bedroom boasts an “unprecedented” 44dB sound intensity level, for added comfort, it continues.
The interior is also 20% lighter than initially projected, allowing the aircraft to carry extra fuel and fly longer nonstop missions.
To expedite the completion process, AAC designed, engineered and manufactured the bulkheads, monuments, furnishings and headliner grid system for the interior before the green aircraft's arrival, in October 2014.
The company is poised to deliver its first BBJ 747-8, and says it is also outfitting an Airbus ACJ320 in Dallas. "We are also partnering on other completion projects, and actively bidding on new wide- and narrowbody contracts," says AAC.

EVERETT, Wash., March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Major assembly of the first Boeing (NYSE: BA) 787-10 Dreamliner is underway, the latest major milestone in the development of the newest member of the super-efficient 787 family. Boeing partner Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. began installing the circular frames into the midforward section of the fuselage on March 14, a full two weeks ahead of schedule.

"Beginning major assembly early underscores the commitment, discipline and performance of the entire Boeing and partner team worldwide," said Ken Sanger, vice president of 787 Airplane Development, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We are taking all the right steps to ensure we integrate the 787-10 into the production system smoothly."

As a straightforward stretch of the 787-9, which entered service in 2014, Boeing designed the 787-10 for both superior efficiency and maximum commonality. Ninety-five percent of the design and build of the 787-10 and 787-9 will be identical, reducing complexity, cost and risk across the entire production system while providing operational benefits to customers.

The 787-10, which will undergo final assembly at Boeing South Carolina in North Charleston, will set a new benchmark in efficiency when deliveries begin in 2018. With a robust range capability covering more than 90 percent of the world's twin-aisle routes, the 787-10 will deliver 25 percent better fuel use and emissions than the airplanes it will replace and at least 10 percent better than anything being offered by the competition in the future.

To date, the 787-10 has won 153 orders from nine leading customers around the world, accounting for 13 percent of all 787 orders.
