[h=2]Emirates to use A380 to Mumbai[/h]Emirates will fly the Airbus A380 to Mumbai from July, meaning UK travellers can experience the double decker throughout both legs of their journey.
The upgrade, on one of the frequencies flown either by the current Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 services, follows the relaxation of rules by Indian authorities that restricted the use of larger aircraft in order to protect the country’s home airlines.
In a statement to Indian news site livemint.com, the airline said: “Emirates plans to deploy an A380 on one of its existing daily services between Dubai to Mumbai, starting from July and is working closely with Mumbai Airport authorities to make this deployment possible.
“In addition, we have plans to upgrade existing aircraft to larger capacity Boeing 777s to Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai starting from June 1.”
In 2013/14, Emirates introduced A380 services to Barcelona, Brisbane, Gatwick, Los Angeles, Mauritius and Zurich, bringing to 27 the total number of destinations served by its popular flagship aircraft.
Singapore Airlines will use the A380 from May 30 to both Delhi and Mumbai.

Qatar Airways (Doha) has announced its second Airbus A380 aircraft will commence operations on the route to Paris (Charles De Gaulle) from Doha’s new hub, Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways recently announced that the first of its 13 Airbus A380 aircraft on order will commence operations on the QR 003 and QR 004 flights on the route to London-Heathrow and return starting on June 17. Following this, the airline has now confirmed that its second A380 will be used to fly to Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport from Doha from July 3, on flights QR 39 and QR 40.
Featuring a tri-class configuration of seating in First, Business and Economy Class, over two decks, the A380 is the largest passenger jet in the world and will provide a superior traveller experience to the Qatar Airways’ customers.
The new First Class A380 seat, recently revealed at the world’s leading travel show, ITB Berlin, features a 90-inch seat pitch, transforming into a fully flat bed, together with an expansive choice of entertainment options displayed on individual 26-inch television screens.
Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar Airways new home as of May 27, has been designed to specifically cater to the A380 aircraft, with six contact gates designed especially for the super jumbo. In addition, the maintenance hangar at HIA – which is the largest in the world – is able to accommodate two A380s simultaneously.

In addition to the 13 A380 aircraft the airline currently has on order, Qatar Airways is also set this year to welcome the first of 80 Airbus A350 aircraft, the world’s newest aircraft, as Airbus’ launch customer. This forms part of Qatar Airways plans to significantly expand its fleet with 300 additional aircraft, worth more than $50 billion (US), on order, including the Boeing 787 and 777X.
Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 17 years of operation, to the point where today it is flying a modern fleet of 134 aircraft to 139 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America.
Over the next few months, the network will grow further with new routes to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Turkey (May 22, 2014), Edinburgh, Scotland (May 28, 2014), Miami, USA (June 10, 2014), Tokyo Haneda, Japan (June 18, 2014), Dallas/Fort Worth, USA (July 1, 2014) and Djibouti (July 27, 2014).

Emirates A380 network to expand to Frankfurt

Emirates, a global connector of people and places announced today that Frankfurt, the financial epicentre of Germany, will be the next destination slated for its flagship A380 aircraft. The daily A380 service will start on 1st September.
Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Emirates said: “Frankfurt was one of the first European destinations for Emirates and as the financial capital of Germany it continues to be strategically important. Deploying larger capacity aircraft, such as the A380, is central to helping us meet growing passenger demand between one of the Europe’s busiest economic regions and the emerging economies of Asia, Middle East and Africa, through seamless, swift connections via our Dubai hub. The local economy will also derive substantial benefits from tourism growth with the increased number of visitors from the GCC region. We are proud to fly our flagship A380 aircraft to Frankfurt from 1st September and offer our passengers the Emirates on-board Shower Spa experience, our world-renowned on-board Lounge, and an unparalleled 1,700 channels of inflight entertainment across all cabins.”
Volker Bouffier, Prime Minister of German State of Hesse commented: “Emirates’ A380 service represents a clear commitment to Frankfurt Airport and its surrounding region facilitating the flow of international tourism and trade. Emirates has connected two strong business regions, the UAE and Hesse, for 27 years. The airline’s triple daily services demonstrate its continued commitment to Frankfurt Airport, the region’s largest employer.”
Frankfurt is currently served with a triple daily Boeing 777 operation. From 1st September, EK 45 becomes an A380 flight, leaving Dubai at 0825hrs and arriving in Frankfurt at 1315hrs. The return double-decker flight, EK46, departs Frankfurt at 1520hrs and lands in Dubai at 2335hrs.
Peter Feldmann, Lord Mayor of Frankfurt said: “Frankfurt welcomes the Emirates A380, an aircraft that is partly produced in Germany and that acts as a worldwide ambassador for European top-class engineering. Emirates’ decision to deploy the A380 further strengthens Frankfurt Airport’s position as one of the leading hubs of international aviation.“
Dr. Stefan Schulte, Chairman of the Executive Board of Fraport AG commented: “Frankfurt was amongst the very first airports ever to be ready for the Airbus A380. The operation of the latest generation of wide-bodied aircraft at our airport further strengthens our role as international air traffic hub. We thank Emirates for the long-standing partnership and look forward to regularly welcome the airline’s flagship at Frankfurt.”
With 48 A380s in its fleet, Emirates is the largest operator globally of the Airbus superjumbo, which has carried over 25 million passengers since its launch in 2008. Emirates is also the largest A380 purchaser with 92 pending delivery – a share of the A380 programme which alone is estimated to support approximately 12,000 direct German jobs. German aeronautical businesses contribute to the production of the aircraft’s engines, wings, ice entertainment system, lighting and On-board Shower features, and over €200 million is spent each year by Emirates for the operation and maintenance of these components, according to a study by the Institute of Air Transport and Airport Research (DLR).
Emirates also depends on small and medium sized German suppliers of aircraft products and services for parts like galleys, aircraft upholstery, paints and ground handling equipment worth hundreds of millions of Euros each year.
The A380 is known for its environmental credentials. Its Engine Alliance GP7200 engines are extraordinarily quiet and readily meet strict ICAO Stage Four noise level standards. In fact, the A380 offers the best noise footprint for very large aircraft, and is more than six decibels quieter on departure than the Boeing 747-400. In addition, larger aircraft mean fewer take-offs and landings - in many cases the equivalent of flying up to seven smaller aircraft types, for certain versions of the Emirates A380.
The 519 seat double decker that commences operations to Frankfurt on 1st September also represents a noteworthy advancement in reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Emirates’ A380s contribute to a fleet-wide fuel efficiency that is over 15% better than the IATA global fleet average.
The flagship Emirates A380 continues to rouse customer interest wherever it is deployed. Just last month, over 13,000 people visited the Emirates A380 in display at the ILA Berlin Airshow. On the passenger front, the A380 also continues to deliver strong load factors wherever it flies.
Emirates passengers flying the A380 will have access to a spacious aircraft, will experience a peaceful journey in the world’s quietest long-range jet; can use the on-board Wi-Fi; indulge in world-class food and be entertained by the award-winning ice system with over 1,700 channels of entertainment.
Emirates has redefined the core experience of premium travel. First Class and Business Class passengers will have access to the A380’s on-board Lounge, with space to mingle whilst enjoying world-class delicacies. First Class passengers can experience the aircraft’s on-board signature Shower Spa, with a state-of-the-art German produced shower system, as well as the aircraft’s First Class Private Suites.
Emirates also operates nine freighter flights per week to Frankfurt. Over the last five years, over 191,000 tonnes of cargo have been exported from Frankfurt to Dubai. Main commodities out of Frankfurt include machinery, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and electronic equipment.
After the addition of the A380 to Frankfurt operations, Germany will be the second most served European country by the Emirates A380 after the UK. Munich is also served by a double daily A380 operation.
So far in 2014, Emirates has introduced A380 services to Barcelona, London-Gatwick and Zurich. It will soon launch Kuwait on 16th July, Mumbai on 21st July and Dallas/Fort Worth on 1st October.

ILA: A380 remains a ‘customer magnet’ for Emirates

The Airbus A380 continues to be Emirates’ most in-demand product seven years after entering service with the carrier, says Hubert Frach, the carrier’s divisional senior vice-president, commercial operations west, responsible for sales in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Russian Federation.

“There is no change in terms of attractiveness of the A380,” says Frach. “The load factor for the A380 fleet is above average [compared with the Emirates fleet overall] and for us it is a profitable aircraft. It is a customer magnet.”

The airline’s flagship continues to be a popular choice among travellers, who frequently choose it over other Emirates services, says Frach. “The product speaks for itself”, and “it is no problem at all” to fill the extra seats on an A380 when a route is upgraded from a smaller type, he says.

As more of the type join the fleet, the number of routes where passengers can transfer from A380 to A380 at Emirates’ Dubai hub is increasing.

“The more we receive, the easier it is to develop selling propositions,” says Frach. “From a marketing point of view, it is easy to grasp. Everyone knows they will obtain a top premium product in all classes.”

Qatar's first Airbus A380 delivery now due end of June

Qatar Airways is likely to take delivery of its first Airbus A380 by the end of this month, Airbus says.
John Leahy Airbus' Chief Operating Office Customers, told media assembled for the aircraft manufacturer's annual Airbus Innovation Days event that the first of Qatar's delayed A380 deliveries would be "in the next couple of weeks."Qatar previously slated the superjumbo's inaugural flight to London on June 17, with Paris from July 3 and New York to follow."Three A380s will be delivered to us over a 30 day period" Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Akbar said in May at the Arabian Travel Market. The Gulf carrier has 13 A380s on order, "three of which are optional" Akbar said, "but depending on how we economic benefits from the A380 there is a possibility that Qatar will order more A380s in the not to distant future."Step inside Qatar Airways' Airbus A380 for a look at the Gulf carrier's new first class and business class cabin, the inflight bar and even the bathrooms.Qatar's A380 first class

The upper deck of Qatar's A380 includes eight elegant and thankfully-restrained first suites.

Each seat converts to a fully lie-flat bed, of course, with the 90 inch pitch offering plenty of room to stretch out.

There's also a 26 inch (48cm) personal HD video screen and companion dining seat. The A380's exclusive first class bathrooms "create a spa-like warmth with contemporary clean lines and a finish that comes with the most luxurious amenities", the airline preens.

The taps are sensor-operated, and we've got to admit that it's a pleasure to see a generously-sized large square sink.Qatar's A380 business class

Also on the upper deck are 48 business class seats featuring a near-identical design to their siblings on Qatar's Boeing 787 fleet.

Behind this is a spacious inflight lounge and bar with mood lighting.

Qatar says the lounge not only "offers passengers an escape from the typical airplane environment" but has been designed to exude the feel of a private "executive club".

The lounge area also serves to insulate Qatar's premium passengers from the 56 economy seats perched at the rear of the upper deck.Qatar's A380 economy class

These type of upstairs mini-cabins for economy are quite popular with savvy travellers. It's believed that Qatar will cannily allocate these seats as first priority to top-tier Platinum members of its Privilege Club frequent flyer scheme as well as Oneworld partner airlines including Qantas and British Airways. The lower deck of Qatar's A380 is given over entirely to 405 economy class seats configured in a 10-across 3-4-3 layout.

We've also got a full seatmap courtesy of FlightGlobal.

Qatar's A380 fleet will operate from Doha's new Hamad International Airport, which includes a series of A380 gates so that passengers can board the aircraft from both its upper and lower decks.
oha's new airport aims to out-class the home hubs of Emirates and Etihad
This is part of Qatar's goal to maximise each aircraft's flying time and achieve a minimum connecting time of just 30 minutes between flights.Built on 2200 hectares of mostly reclaimed land, the $15 billion airport will include a dedicated terminal for the sole use of first class and business class passengers.
