Airbus A340-600 ground incident at Airbus headquarters, Toulouse

Etihad Airways is continuing to liaise closely with aircraft manufacturer Airbus and the French authorities following damage to an Airbus A340-600 type aircraft at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Toulouse, France.

The airline has been made aware that a number of people have been taken to hospital following the ground incident in which the aircraft sustained significant airframe damage during routine engine performance tests.

Etihad Airways chief executive James Hogan said: “I am deeply concerned to hear about injuries following this incident and my sympathies are with those in hospital and their families.

“I remain in contact with my team in France, as well as Airbus and the French authorities, in order to keep fully informed of the latest developments.”

Etihad Airways’ Paris based country manager for France is en route to the Airbus headquarters in Toulouse.

The aircraft involved in the incident was undergoing pre-delivery tests. It was scheduled to be delivered next week to Etihad Airways’ Abu Dhabi base.

Etihad Airways has been made aware of an incident involving an Airbus A340-600 type aircraft at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Toulouse, France, today.

We understand the aircraft was undergoing pre-delivery engine tests and sustained airframe damage as a result of the incident.

No Etihad Airways staff have been involved in this incident.

The aircraft was scheduled to be delivered to Etihad Airways’ main Abu Dhabi base in the UAE next week.

We are liaising closely with Airbus.

We will provide further information as soon as it is available.

L'unica cosa che posso aggiungere, in base alle sole informazioni ufficiali che ho, è che l'aereo stava "uscendo" dalla zona prova motori, così scrivono.
Sulla dinamica non ho la più pallida idea, e la buona notizia è che nessuno di quelli coinvolti è in pericolo di vita.

Industrial accident at Airbus facility - Saint Martin site
16 November 2007
Following the regrettable accident that occurred at the Airbus Saint-Martin site (close to Toulouse) yesterday 15th November at 5 pm local time, Airbus reports that of the five injured people, three remain in hospital. Two were released between yesterday night and this morning. Of the three persons remaining in hospital, one is an employee of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT), a service provider for Etihad Airways, and two are Airbus employees. Airbus and ADAT are providing all necessary support to the persons involved and their families.

The accident involved an A340-600 (MSN 856), which was carrying out engine-run-ups and was due to be delivered to Etihad in the coming days.

An investigation has started yesterday night and Airbus is providing full support to the official investigation authorities in France.

Ground tests including engine-run-ups are a normal procedure on all Airbus aircraft.

Airbus expresses its sympathy and support to the families and friends of the persons concerned.

"Cosa" stessero provando non so dirtelo.
Le prove motori vengono fatte per più ragioni, ad esempio controllare eventuali perdite di fluidi o carburante a seguito di sostituzione di componenti.

Dwarf, mi permetto di fare una critica verso il tuo intervento e quelli dello stesso stile, come puoi fare una domanda del genere? Questi test sono fatti da persone molto competenti, l'errore é umano in ogni campo, sembra quasi che tu metta in dubbio la serietà di queste persone.

aggiungo...ancora non è stata definita la causa; potrebbe anche essere stato un cedimento di qualche struttura, assolutamente non prevedibile.
Di sicuro Airbus, come tutte le aziende che operano nel settore progettazione e costruzioni aeronautiche, non lasciano alcun spazio all'improvvisazione
