Ciao Mauro

Lift me up
* On the ground
Since last Wednesday, Schiphol Airport has an new attraction thanks to the KLM Group and especially KLM Cityhopper. On Tuesday a rebuilt KLC Fokker 100 was lifted onto Schiphol’s Panorama Terrace.
Two large cranes lift the Fokker 100 into place on the Panorama Terrace.
The Fokker, which will convey the excitement of aviation to the 600,000 visitors every year, features a variety of things to see in terms of Dutch aviation history. Especially for kids there is a list of aircraft factoids and aviation riddles to solve. The aircraft’s interior provides information about Fokker’s history. Large panels offer information about the history of meal service in the air, aircraft interiors and special details about this specific Fokker 100. There is also a timeline showing important historical events involving KLM and Schiphol. Visitors can sit in one of the cockpit’s original seats and look around in the baggage hold.
KLM Cityhopper has been phasing out the older Fokker 100s from the KLC fleet and replaced them with EMBRAER 190s. KLC still has five F100s in its fleet. The aircraft on the Panorama Terrace — the PH-OFE — took its maiden flight on 2 March 1989 and was decommissioned on 19 February 2010. In its last five years of service the aircraft transported more than 550,000 passengers on 7,403 flights to destinations including Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol, Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Nice and Bologna.
Anyone interesting in taking a look at Schiphol Airport can reach the Panorama Terrace by taking the passageway between Departure Halls 1 and 2. Admission is free.
