Air Berlin will end flights on 28th October at the latest and is encouraging employees to seek jobs elsewhere.
Bankrupt German airline, Air Berlin, says it is preparing to end flights by the end of this month. In a letter to employees, the airline said that flights will no longer be possible after 28th October at the latest. The move is not exactly a surprise, as Air Berlin filed for administration in August after its largest shareholder Etihad declared it would not be providing further financial support.
Lufthansa and UK budget airline easyJet are in talks to buy up chunks of the stricken airline. Any agreement will need a green light from European authorities.
Anyone who bought tickets after the airline filed for insolvency on 15th August 2017, will be either reimbursed for the purchase price or re-booked on an alternative flight.
However, customers who bought their ticket before Air Berlin filed for insolvency, may be out of luck. Those tickets cannot be reimbursed due to insolvency regulations. They are advised to contact their travel insurance company.

BERLIN (AP) — Bankrupt German airline Air Berlin says it's preparing to end flights at the end of October.
The dpa news agency reported Monday that in a letter to employees the airline, Germany's second largest, said that flights under the airline code AB "according to the current state of things, will no longer be possible after October 28 at the latest."
Flights operated by subsidiaries Niki and LG Walter, which are not insolvent, will continue.
Air Berlin declared bankruptcy in August following years of losses and the decision of its biggest shareholder, Gulf airline Etihad, to cease financing.
It's currently in talks with Lufthansa and Easyjet about selling parts of its business. The company said in the letter that "in a few days we'll know more" about that.
