Questa non me la sarei mai aspettata.
Non doveva essere il mezzo che abilitava rotte intercontinentali su destinazioni secondarie? Almeno iniziamo a vedere qualcosa....

Vediamo se Austin regge o sara' meglio usarlo piuttosto per aumentare le frequenze su rotte meno sottili, ma onore a BA per il tentativo.

Air India ritorna in Australia:

Air India returns to Australia with 787 service

Air India has resumed service to Australia, becoming the first airline to operate Boeing 787 passenger service to Australia. The airline will use the 787 to operate a daily service from Delhi, on a triangular routing, serving Sydney and Melbourne. The carrier will offer 4X-weekly nonstop services to Sydney and 3X-weekly nonstop services to Melbourne.
Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather welcomed the service to Australia, calling India Australia’s largest unserved market. Air India chairman and managing director Rohit Nandan said he believes the flight would not only stimulate travel between India and Australia, but also the Indian communities in New Zealand and Fiji.
Currently, all travel from Australia to India involves a stopover and change of aircraft in Asia.

Boeing launches 787 training in Miami

Boeing has launched 787 customer training in Miami, Fla., the site of the company's largest commercial aviation training campus. Aeromexico and LAN Airlines are the first two customers to train on the 787 suites at the Boeing Flight Services Miami campus.
Boeing has greatly enhanced its overall training capability in Florida following anannouncement in March that the company would relocate training devices from Seattle to Miami.
“To better serve airlines and meet growing personnel training requirements, two 787 full-flight simulators are now located at the Miami campus as well as an additional Next-Generation 737 full-flight simulator and 717, 747 and 767 simulators. An additional 777 simulator will locate in Miami later this year,” Boeing said in a statement. “These seven devices will bring total capability in Miami to 17 full-flight simulators across airplane types, making the campus one of the largest commercial flight training facilities in the world.”

Norwegian airline reports new 787 glitch

Low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle on Sunday announced a new technical problem with one of its Boeing 787 "Dreamliners", as the plane was grounded due to a flaw in its electrical system.

"We've had a problem since yesterday (Saturday) with a Dreamliner, linked to its electrical system," company spokesman Lasse Sandaker-Nielsen told AFP.

"The aircraft is not getting enough electricity."

The plane was scheduled to leave Oslo for Bangkok on Saturday, but after waiting for more than 24 hours, the passengers were transferred to Stockholm, where they boarded a chartered plane.

It is the second incident that Norwegian has had this week with its Dreamliner fleet -- which currently consists of two planes.

Norwegian's other Dreamliner was stuck on the tarmac of Stockholm's Arlanda airport from Monday after a light suggested a problem with the brake system.

The plane was finally deemed fit to fly on Friday after technicians concluded the light had lit up by mistake.

"That kind of technical issue tends to happen with new planes," said Sandaker-Nielsen.

"If you think about Airbus A380, it also had all kinds of teething problems," he said, referring to the large European-built passenger airliner.

Norwegian has ordered altogether eight Boeing 787 Dreamliners, of which two have been delivered so far, with a delay.

The Dreamliner has encountered several serious difficulties since entering operation, especially with its batteries, causing the entire fleet to be grounded for about four months earlier this year.

These glitches do not appear to have seriously affected the fortunes of the American aircraft maker, which said Friday it had received 89 new orders for the plane since the start of the year.

[h=2]Newest member of efficient 787 family touches down after 5-hour-plus inaugural flight[/h][h=2]-787-9 flight-test fleet production on track; flight testing proceeding on schedule[/h]SEATTLE, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boeing [NYSE: BA] 787-9 Dreamliner took to the skies for the first time today, beginning a comprehensive flight-test program leading to certification and delivery in mid-2014.
With its distinctive new Boeing livery, the newest member of the efficient 787 family completed a 5-hour, 16-minute flight, taking off from Paine Field in Everett, Wash., at 11:02 a.m. local time and landing at 4:18 p.m. at Seattle's Boeing Field.
"Today's first flight marks a significant milestone for our team, including our partners," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Conner. "We are tremendously proud to have our customers fly the 787-9 and look forward to delivery of the first airplane to Air New Zealand next year."
During today's flight, 787-9 Senior Project Pilot Mike Bryan and 787 Chief Pilot Randy Neville departed to the north, reaching an altitude of 20,400 feet (6,218 meters) and an airspeed of 250 knots, or about 288 miles (463 kilometers) per hour, customary for a first flight. While Capts. Bryan and Neville tested the airplane's systems and structures, onboard equipment transmitted real-time data to a flight-test team on the ground in Seattle.
"We accomplished a lot in this flight, and it went really well," said Bryan. "The 787-9 is a great jet and we wanted to just keep on flying."
Powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, the first 787-9 will be joined in flight test by two additional airplanes, one of which will feature General Electric GEnx engines. Those airplanes are in the final stages of assembly in Boeing's Everett factory. Over the coming months, the fleet will be subjected to a variety of tests and conditions to demonstrate the safety and reliability of the airplane's design.
The 787-9 will complement and extend the 787 family, offering airlines the ability to grow routes first opened with the 787-8. With the fuselage stretched by 20 feet (6 meters) over the 787-8, the 787-9 will carry 40 more passengers an additional 300 nautical miles (555 kilometers), with the same exceptional environmental performance — 20 percent less fuel use and 20 percent fewer emissions than similarly sized airplanes. The 787-9 leverages the visionary design of the 787-8, offering the features passengers prefer such as large, dimmable windows, large stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.
Boeing is on track to deliver the 787-9 to launch customer Air New Zealand in mid-2014. Twenty-five customers from around the world have ordered 388 787-9s, accounting for 40 percent of all 787 orders.

A mio modesto parere il 789 sarà il vero best seller della famiglia Dreamliner, un po' come il 762 vs il 763.
